School of Education
The Division of Educational Psychology and Methodology is part of the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology within the School of Education. The Division has had a long history of preparing excellent scholars, teachers, and researchers to advance human learning and development in a variety of settings, with approaches accommodated to the range of human diversity.
Three graduate programs are offered within the Division of Educational Psychology and Methodology
- Doctoral program with concentrations in learning-instruction, development, methodology, and special education.
- Master’s program in educational psychology and methodology;
- 60-credit certificate program to prepare educational research specialists.
- Interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in human development to study humans across the lifespan.

Dr. Heidi Andrade’s paper on The Role of Classroom Assessment in Supporting Self-Regulated Learning is now available in the new book Assessment for Learning: Meeting the Challenge of Implementation (Springer). The book provides new perspectives on Assessment for Learning (AfL), on the challenges encountered in its implementation, and on the diverse ways of meeting these challenges. The book brings together the contibutions of authors from 13 different countries and reflects a wide range of educational contexts.
As technology continues to rapidly evolve, the development of internet addiction among adolescents has become as serious public health concern – especially in Asian countries such as China. Stella Xian Li, who earned her Ph.D. from UAlbany’s Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology this semester, is part of a collaborative study which links individual and environmental risk factors with internet addiction in adolescents.
Dr. Robert J. Sternberg, professor of human development at Cornell University, is one of the most prolific and influential scholars in contemporary psychology. Dr. Sternberg will give a talk Monday, May 15th at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center titled In Search of Zipperump-a-Zoo: What I have Learned from 40+ Years of Research on Intelligence.
